Why the World Needs You to Love Yourself

I don’t know about you, but when I was growing up, saying that someone “loves herself” was a put-down!

This is changing – thank goodness.

When I learned (the hard way) that I needed to take responsibility for loving myself, it was a game changer. My relationships improved and I became so much happier.

I noticed that when I committed to practising self-love, I felt more loving towards other people.

When we’re young, somehow we learn to look outside ourselves for love and happiness. I believe then that our most important mission is coming back “home” to ourselves. Learning how to find the love within us. To love ourselves unconditionally. Warts, faults and all.

When we do this, magic happens.

Our love overflows. We feel loving and compassionate, rather than critical and judgemental towards others.

So next time you notice yourself feeling negative thoughts about someone else, ask yourself, “how’s my self-love going?”

    • Hi Wendy, great question! One of the best self-love practices is simply to say, as often as you can to yourself, “I love myself”. Say it again and again. Say it especially if you’re struggling. If you can be aware of your heart centre at the same time as you say this, even better. I have many more tips to share on how to love yourself (too much to write here!) but that simple mantra, “I love myself” is one of the best!

  3. I have Emphysema and on borrowed time, I have Depression ,Anxiety and a fear of everything, I don’t go out as I’m too scared to. Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do to help myself, I’m desperate for help my doctor has done all he can for me. I’m on medication and Morphine but my insides shake all day long it drives me insane. If I could only get the shaking to stop I might cope a bit better just don’t no were to turn to for help. I was thinking a meditation of some sort might help but what are the best ones for my situation. Sorry to dump this on you if you can help me great if not I do understand just thought you may be able to teach me something that I can do myself. I do do Meditation not sure if I do it right but I do it and find it does help I’m just unsure which ones to do for my situation.
