Resistance: Feel the Fear & Do it Anyway

Is there something that you feel a strong call to do, that scares you? That fear is just resistance, and it’s completely normal!

It may show up as avoidance, procrastination or self-sabotage. The voice of fear is so clever at coming up with all the reasons why we shouldn’t move forward with what scares us.

“I don’t feel like it.” “People will judge me.” “I’ll try again tomorrow – I’m too tired today,”

Deep down, you know the desire to do the thing that your heart calls you to do, is the voice you should listen to. It’s your inner voice of truth.

The key is to recognise the resistance for what it is and be present with the discomfort you feel. Allowing the discomfort to be there, is the key to releasing its hold on you.

This is about coming out of fear (which is the response to avoid, fight, control, numb, run away, distract yourself from the discomfort) and into love. It’s what “spiritual surrender” is all about.

By allowing the uncomfortable thoughts and feelings to be there, knowing they’re not your truth and they’re only temporary, you can free yourself. Instead of being at the mercy of the voice of fear and your unconscious mind, you become the master.

Here are 2 simple techniques to gain mastery over your resistance:

1. A simple mantra like, “I love it, I love it…” to drown out the voice of fear, which gives you so many reasons to not take the action you really want to take.

2. Change the way you look at the feelings of nervousness or anxiety and see it as excitement instead. Science tells us that the body’s response to these two states is almost identical anyway!

Learn to get comfortable with discomfort, because staying where you are is very uncomfortable in the long term anyway!

The feeling of freedom and accomplishment that comes from feeling the fear and doing it anyway, far outweighs the frustration and regret of not following our heart’s true calling.

We’re not here to stay comfortable and play it safe.

I believe our journey is about learning to know, love and be our most authentic selves, so we can be who the world needs us to be.

It takes courage, but the result is a purposeful, meaningful, wonderful life.
